Accessibility: Technosite 2.0 Certification - WAI/WCAG (Level AA)

THE IBERDROLA WEBSITE CLIENTS SECTION HAS BEEN CERTIFIED UNDER THE TECHNOSITE 2.0 DOUBLE-A ACCESSIBILITY SEAL. THIS CERTIFICATION IS BASED ON INTERNATIONAL ACCESSIBILITY STANDARDS AND FOLLOWS THE ACCESSIBILITY MONITORING MODEL OF THE EURACERT LABEL, CREATED BY THE INTERNATIONAL EUROACCESSIBILITY CONSORTIUM WITH THE BACKING OF THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION. THIS CERTIFICATION IS ALSO COMPATIBLE WITH SPANISH STANDARD UNE 139803:2012 REGARDING WEB CONTENT ACCESSIBILITY.

In line with the commitments assumed within the framework of their Social Reputation policy, IBERDROLA strives to make website access to Iberdrola Clients easier for anyone regardless of age or situations such as disabilities, or even website access with different device types.

For this reason, the Iberdrola Client Website (www.iberdrola.es) has been developed following the level A and AA accessibility criteria set out in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0. These guidelines are Recommendations of the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) and the core for standards such as ISO/IEC 40500 or UNE 139803:2012.

Technosite, a company run by the Fundación ONCE specialised in technology and disabilities, has granted the Technosite 2.0 Double-A certification to the Iberdrola Clients Website (www.iberdrola.es) after conducting a full Accessibility Audit on 7 March 2014, whereby verifying fulfilment of all the accessibility requirements and criteria to Level AA Conformance as set out in WCAG 2.0.

The Technosite Double-A seal continues the continuous accessibility monitoring model established by the Euracert label, whose version adapted to WCAG 2.0 is currently being framed. This accessibility certification was borne from the partnership of several European organisations specialising in web accessibility with the backing of the European Commission: Technosite, from the Grupo Fundosa (Spain), BrailleNet Association (France) and ONA (Belgium). There is a new version of the Euracert 2.0 label currently in development, with the incorporation of two new international partners: AbilityNet (United Kingdom) and Idea Futura (Italy).

Functionalities, Technology applied ...

Functionalities

The following are some of the functionalities implemented on the Iberdrola Clients website to enable easier access to all web content:

  • Visual features (typeface, font and screen colours, etc.) of the website are defined by a style sheet, enabling users to adjust texts to their own preferences.
  • Font sizes are defined in relative units to let users enlarge or reduce the text size from browser options.
  • If a user accesses www.iberdrola.es with a browser that does not support a style sheet, this is not a major problem, since all contents can still be accessed with the Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) set at off.
  • Web pages are clearly structured for users who want to view the full content of the website or on graphic display readers, and users who disable the style sheet, etc. With this in mind, we have made HTML-coded section headers, lists and all other elements contributing to the general understanding of the website.
  • The HTML code and CSS used comply with the standards to guarantee that contents are correctly interpreted and displayed in different browsers.

Technology applied

Compliance with Level AA standards under the WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) of the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium), namely the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0.

The presentation is based on W3C Recommendations for Cascading Style Sheets, Level 2 (CSS2).

The recommended standard was used for the HTML code, verifying the Transitional HTML 4.01 recommendations.

Exceptions

There may currently be issues when accessing some areas and web page content. Rest assured that our efforts are focused on making them accessible in the very near future: The involved areas are:

  • My Customer Area
  • Pages of external applications and channels at www.iberdrola.es
  • PDF documents: some of the PDF documents on Iberdrola’s public website have no accessible tagging. However, Iberdrola undertakes to provide an accessible version of these documents to all users who request it.
