The aerothermal heat pump harnesses energy from the air to heat domestic hot water by using a source of renewable energy, reducing CO2 emissions and delivering savings of up to 70%.

The aerothermal heat pump consists of a water tank and a heat pump, usually integrated in the same unit.

Both units work in the same way as a conventional electric boiler/heater however, an aerothermal heat pump is at least four times more efficient.

Both units are air-water heat pumps, but their components and functionalities are different. An aerothermal heat pump is used to heat domestic hot water, while an aerothermal energy system is used for heating and cooling the home and heating domestic hot water. The aerothermal energy system also needs an external unit to harness more energy and provide the home with heat and cool air.

A monoblock aerothermal heat pump is a single unit in which the tank and heat pump are integrated, with a sealed refrigeration unit circuit, similar to that of a fridge. This kind of aerothermal heat pump expels cold air during operation, so it may require ducting to the outside, depending on the available space. On the other hand, a split aerothermal heat pump works like an air conditioning unit with the tank being installed indoors and the compressor outdoors. This eliminates the need to duct cold air.

It is also important to note that an aerothermal heat pump should have approximately 30% more volume than an electric water heater, as it operates at lower temperatures and needs to be larger to offer the same levels of comfort.

The dimensions depend on the aerothermal heat pump's capacity, typically ranging from 120-200cm in height and 50-70cm in diameter.

In general, aerothermal heat pumps up to 150L can be wall-mounted; however, the space where it is to be located should be assessed to determine if it can be wall-mounted or should be floor-standing.

An aerothermal heat pump comprises a water tank and a heat pump. The heat pump may be integrated inside the unit, but depending on the space where it is to be installed and the domestic hot water demand, an outdoor unit may be required.

The aerothermal heat pump's location determines whether or not air ducting to the outside is necessary.
