IBERDROLA is the only Spanish utility to be included in the Carbon Performance Leadership Index (CPLI), which is drafted by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) to highlight the 48 companies worldwide with the best climate change mitigation strategy.
The company was selected by the CDP on the strength of its sustainable initiatives, its relations with the various stakeholder groups (customers, suppliers, investors, employees, etc.) and, in particular, its commitment to reducing emissions.
The CDP has included IBERDROLA in this new ranking because one of the priorities in its climate change mitigation strategy is to provide transparent information on its initiatives in this field and because it is also committed to achieving visible results as regards reducing its emissions.
This list, which is drawn up by international investors managing assets valued at 64,000 million dollars, is intended as a benchmark for shareholders wishing to identify the most profitable companies in terms of their climate change mitigation strategy.
Ignacio Galán, Chairman of IBERDROLA, stated that the company is proud of having been included in this new sustainability index and highlighted that the company is among the utilities with the lowest CO2 emissions, with the commitment to keep them below the average figure for the European sector.
Galán also pointed out that in recent years, the company has laid the foundations for successful reduction of emissions and that it will continue in future to promote a strategy focused on green generation sources, innovation and efficiency.
According to Paul Dickinson, Chief Executive Officer of the Carbon Disclosure Project, “the companies in this new ranking have been chosen for their management strategies aimed at reducing emissions and achieving a low-carbon economy”.
The inclusion of IBERDROLA in this new ranking is another indication of its efforts in promoting sustainability, which has already earned it a place in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the eleventh year in a row. It is also the only utility in the world to meet the nuclear requirements imposed by FTSE4Good.
