IBERDROLA encourages research, development and innovation (R&D) activities aimed at the optimisation and management of assets, operations, and processes, which make it possible to improve the sustainability and reliability of supply, providing new services and more efficient products.
The innovative strategy of the Company, which develops R&D projects in all of its business lines, is set out in the new R&D Plan 2012-2014. In 2012, the Group spent a total of 145 million euros on R&D activities distributed among its international subsidiaries, with a portfolio of more than 150 projects in areas that contributed to making IBERDROLA a technological leader in its sector.
IBERDROLA’s innovation forms part of an open and decentralised international R&D management model, in which it emphasises cooperation with technological suppliers and boosting innovation among employees. As a sign of its commitment to excellence, these systems are certified by Aenor in the businesses in Spain in accordance with UNE standard 166.002.
