In 2009, IBERDROLA Ingeniería y Construcción solidified its position as one of the leading energy engineering companies in the world in the areas of generation, networks, and renewable and nuclear energy. It has thus strengthened its role as the Group’s technology hub and has expanded its activities to new customers and markets.
It has also embarked on the road to excellence, and its efforts have been rewarded with the granting of the Prince Felipe Award for Business Excellence, the most prestigious of its kind in Spain, in the Quality and Industrial Innovation category. Moreover, its excellence in management was recognised in 2009 with the 300+ EFQM European Seal of Excellence, following the implementation of a management system based on ISO 9001 standard in all of the Company's activities.
IBERDROLA Engineering and Construction is present in more than 30 countries and is carrying out projects in Europe, America, Africa and the Middle East. It has more than 2,400 employees in its 18 subsidiaries and 13 branch offices.
The 31 countries in which IBERDROLA Engineering and Construction is present and carries out grid, electricity generation, nuclear power and renewable energy projects are: Mexico, Russia, Brazil, Dubai, United Kingdom (England and Scotland), Poland, Hungary, Romania, Greece, United States, Italy, Kenya, Germany, Portugal, Bulgaria, Venezuela, Algeria, Egypt, Tunisia, Qatar, Fujairah, Latvia, Lithuania, Albania, Slovakia, Ukraine, France, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey.

Its international expansion has continued in 2010 with the opening of new subsidiaries and offices in California, Portugal, Sicily and Bari, in Italy.
Two of the major milestones of IBERDROLA Engineering and Construction are its leadership in the construction of wind farms in Poland, Mexico and Spain, and the carrying out of major nuclear power projects in Brazil, Mexico and Russia, where it has established itself as the leading foreign contractor for the upgrading of their nuclear power plants.
In the electric power generation area, the Company is building combined cycle plants in Russia, Algeria, Egypt and Lithuania, and last year completed plants based on this technology in Latvia and Fujairah (Arab Emirates). The Qatar combined cycle plant, in the Middle East, was inaugurated recently.

Special mention must be made of the commencement of the Cenit Ocean Líder project headed by IBERDROLA Ingeniería, which is the most extensive world research into ocean energy. Also worth mentioning are the Direct Steam Generation(DSG) project and Prometeo in the area of thermo-solar technologies.
