The review of the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control Directive and the regulations arising from the Large Combustion Facilities Directive and other regulations on emissions involve the application of limit emission values that are stricter for certain atmospheric pollutants (SO2, NOx and particulate matter) or restrictions on the operation of existing facilities. IBERDROLA has anticipated these regulations in investment plans and operation projections for existing facilities.
These three issues have been included in the Strategic Plan and its public presentation discusses each matter. Here, it is interesting to note how the proposals recently submitted by the European Commission involve an important drive for two of the issues mentioned in IBERDROLA ’s strategic plan, in addition to being two of the fundamental elements of the plan, namely:
| ENVIRONMENTAL INDICATORS | UNITS | 2013 | 2012 |
|---|---|---|---|
| EMISSION-FREE INSTALLED CAPACITY | % | 59.5% | 58.6% |
| RENEWABLE ENERGY INSTALLED CAPACITY | % | 30.6% | 30.3% |
| EMISSION-FREE PRODUCTION | % | 58.0% | 48.4% |
| RENEWABLE ENERGY PRODUCTION | % | 28.0% | 22.6% |
| SPECIFIC CO2 EMISSIONS(2) | t/GWh | 233 | 289 |
