IBERDROLA, THE ONLY UTILITY WORLDWIDE TO MEET NUCLEAR STANDARDS FOR FTSE4GOOD INDEX

  • This is the first time that the index includes companies with nuclear assets
  • The Committe of Experts that draws up the ranking singled out, among other aspects, the Company’s safety standards, treatment of residuales and operating systems
  • IBERDROLA has also been selected for the 11th consecutive year in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) 2010, one of the leading measures for corporate contributions to sustainable development

IBERDROLA has been included in the prestigious FTSE4Good index on the basis of meeting demanding standards in nuclear operations that are set by the evaluating committee, which has valued amongst other aspects the Company’s record in safety, residuals treatment and operating systems.

This is the first edition of this ranking to include groups that carry out a part of their activity in the nuclear field, making Iberdrola a global reference for other energy companies.

In addition to these requirements, the FTSE4Good experts, comprising professionals from mutual funds, the academic world and the business community, have included IBERDROLA for its positive social and environmental policies.

The FTSE Group thus confirms that IBERDROLA has received an independent evaluation in line with FTSE4Good criteria, and has met requirements to become a component of this sustainability ranking which is designed to foster investments in companies that meet corporate responsibility standards recognised at an international level.

The companies that make up the FTSE4Good are deemed to be committed to high social and environmental standards and to leverage the benefits of responsible business practices.

With IBERDROLA’s inclusión in this index, the Company again figures among those preferred by investors for their corporate responsibility strategies, offering a response to the main economic, social and environmental issues of the day.

11th successive year in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index

IBERDROLA has also been again named a member of the utility sector of the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) 2010, which is today one of the leading international benchmarks for corporate contribution to sustainable development.

It is worth mentioning that this year, while 46 groups have been excluded from the list, IBERDROLA is the only electricity group in the world to have been in the ranking since its first edition 11 years ago. On this occasion, IBERDROLA has improved its ranking in relation to the sector average and has stood out in the environmental segment.
