The Colombo Towers office building being built in Lisbon by IBERDROLA Inmobiliaria was voted Portugal's best real estate development (Melhor Projeto Imobiliário) in the office space category of the real estate sector's first annual National Awards held at the 2009 Lisbon Real Estate Salon (Salão Imobiliário de Lisboa 2009).
Jointly developed by IBERDROLA group's subsidiary and Grupo Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Sonae Sierra and ING Real Estate, the project won the award yesterday Thursday at a ceremony held at Lisbon's Design & Fashion Museum (MUDE) and attended by the city's mayor, Antonio Costa.
The prize jury highlighted the complexity of the Colombo Towers' execution atop the Colombo shopping mall and their innovative and environmentally friendly design.
Initiated by IBERDROLA Inmobiliaria and designed to address the lack identified by the developers, of quality large-scale office space in Lisbon's commercial real estate market, the development comprises two 14-storey towers with a total gross area of 29,000 square metres each.
The towers, one of which has been completed and the other which is scheduled to be finished in 2011, will benefit from all the amenities offered in the Colombo shopping mall beneath it, including a large number of restaurants, a hypermarket, a gymnasium, laundries and banks, as well as a wide variety of shops.
The total constructed area, including the towers, shopping mall and parking spaces, covers almost 500,000 square metres, making it the largest mixed-use project in Portugal. With 2,000 square metres of open space per floor, the towers have been designed specifically to meet the needs of large companies.
In addition, the Colombo Towers each offer 500 parking bays and their prime location only a few minutes away from the airport, the Gare do Oriente transport hub and the city centre offers easy access to the city’s major throughfares. The towers are also served by public transport with the Colegio-Militar/Luz underground station right below the complex.
This project promoted by IBERDROLA Inmobiliaria was designed by architect José Quintela and incorporates the best practices in environmental management, earning it a certificate from the prestigious Lloyd's Register Quality Insurance (LRQA), the only certification organisation in the world able to operate in all industrial sectors in accordance with the NP EN 14001:2004 and ESO 14001:2004 standards.
The towers have also received a class B energy certification - the second highest - reflecting the care taken in building the façades and external shells.
