Spain’s IBERDROLA utility and Portugal’s Cabelte group have signed a joint quality agreement to achieve “total quality” in their commercial links.

Both parties stand to gain from the agreement, which is intended to bring down costs, improve product reliability, and shorten delivery times.

The agreement covers the supplies of power lines and control and communications cables manufactured by Cabelte at its plants in Arcozelo, Ribeirao and Madalena in Portugal, and by its Icasa subsidiary at Egüés in Navarra, Spain.

The initial three-year agreement was signed in Madrid today by IBERDROLA’s Javier Villalba, who manages the firm’s regulated business, and Cabelte’s CEO Rui Macario.

Since 2004 the Spanish utility has signed supply contracts worth €21.5 million with Cabelte.

The Cabelte group, founded in 1938, is one of the largest manufacturers of power and communications cable on the Iberian Peninsula, and the leading maker of low and medium voltage power distribution cables (up to 60 kV) and of uncovered aerial power lines.

The agreement reflects IBERDROLA’s strategy of fostering the highest standards of quality, sustainable development, environmental protection and corporate social responsibility among its suppliers.
