The rational use of resources in industry and in our homes contributes to sustainability and productivity, to less pollution and to improving our quality of life. Innovation in the way we produce energy and savings in consumption are key to using it efficiently and fighting against climate change. Every 5 March celebrating World Energy Efficiency Day, we commemorate the first international meeting on energy efficiency, which brought together over 350 experts from 50 countries in Austria in 1998. Now there is a European Union Directive that aims to ensure that the different countries achieve energy savings of 20% by the year 2020.
