Quality Indicators

Generation and distribution operate in compliance with the permits secured from environmental regulating authorities in each region and are subject to restrictions and obligations guaranteeing the protection of the local environment. Prior to their construction, an Environmental Impact Assessment is conducted for new infrastructure projects – impact analysis and prevention mechanisms bearing in mind diverse alternatives and establishing corrective measures -. When this exists, the project shall be modified where possible, adopting available technical improvements and measures identified as necessary to minimise the impact and, if mitigation cannot be comprehensive, possible compensatory measures.

Control over impacts is not over after having constructed the facilities, rather it continues into the operating and dismantling stages thereof with the implementation of Environmental Management Systems. Duly certified environmental systems are available as per the pertinent standard (ISO 1400 or EMAS) to forestall and control environmental risks. In Spain and the United Kingdom, running hydroelectric plants adheres to the requirements laid out in the Water Framework Directive, while thermal generation plants satisfy them as arranged for under the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control Directive.
